The Rotary Flag Retirement Ceremony

May is Youth Service Month

Meeting Summary:

Julie Pittman will host our program with Dr. Sharon Anthony from the Phillips Co. Teen Court.

Menu – Fried Chicken, Creamed Potatoes, turnip greens, salad, and dessert.

The Flag Retirement Ceremony will be on May 21st, at noon at the American Legion Hut. Picnic to follow with the installation of the Little Libraries at Court Square Park.

Justin Nunnery will be bringing our program. His guest will be Regis Bingham with Regis Bingham Financial Consulting.

Clark Hall will be giving us a briefing on Early Voting procedures.

We had a great fellowship by many Rotarians at the Paul Harris Celebration last Thursday. Congratulations to our 2021/22 Paul Harris Fellows: Eddie Calhoun, Al Haraway, Mary Ann Hargraves, Chuck Roscopf, Todd Murray, Alan Bartlo, Jim Frazier, Vance St. Columbia, and Henry Jordan.

The grand opening of the Justice Center, (located across from the HRMC) will be tomorrow, May 12th, 4 – 7 pm. Come out and show your support!

Be sure to support Polio plus with your pocket change in the Happy buckets/boxes on your table.

Please bring your old Rotary Magazines so we can distribute them to the Doctors office.

Meeting Summary:

Walter Morris will be bringing our program. His topic of discussion will be the Helena Museum / Maple Hill Cemetery. 

Menu – Fried Fish, Hushpuppies, Fried Okra, Salad & Dessert.

Please remember the family of fellow Rotarian Bo Marley who passed away April 27th.

Monty Wiggins won last week’s drawing for the big bucks. Congratulations Monty.

Our club did very well at this past weekend’s District Conference! (See Pic Attachments) The last time we won Club of the Year was during Vance St. Columbia’s tenure as president. A lot of hard work goes into getting this recognition. Congratulations Mary Ann on your leadership and outstanding work you do for our club.

May 6th – Very Cherry First Friday at the Delta Dirt Distillery – 5:30. Come to todays meeting to get the secret code for 1/2 off of your 1st drink. Appetizers welcome.

May 12th – Grand opening of the Justice Center located across from HRMC. Come show your support from 4:00 -7:00.

May 9th – Early voting begins. Election day is May 24th.

Meeting Summary:

Holt Pittman will be bringing our program today. His guest will be Eddie Joe Williams who served on the Energy Committee during President Trump’s term.

Meal – Ham, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Salad, Dessert.

Judge Clark Hall will give us a short update on what to expect during Early Voting.

This month’s Rotarian of the Month will be recognized at this week’s meeting.

Our District Conference is this weekend in LR. If you have not registered and would like to attend, please see Mary Ann.

Please bring your old Rotarian magazines to the meeting and we will disperse them to doctors offices and clinics.

Our little libraries have arrived. Be sure to bring the books you would like to donate to the meeting or drop them off at Mary Ann’s house.

Ben Pittman will be bringing the program. He will be talking about the Phillips County Civil War Flag.

Welcome Transfer Rotarian Bob Moore to our club! Bob is the Interim Administrator at HRMC.

Don’t forget to bring your books to stock up our Little Libraries. Also, if you have any old Rotary Magazines, bring them to the meeting and we will distribute them to doctor’s offices.

Meeting Summary:

Ed Pat will be introducing the program. His guest will be Shatoyia Stovall, a licensed caseworker with Mid South Health Systems. Shatoyia is going to talk about programs they offer along with the importance of good Mental Health. Mrs. Brittany Williams who is the program coordinator will also be with her.

Menu: Meat Loaf, fried potatoes w/ onions, green beans, salad & dessert.

Thanks to all who helped with the planting of azaleas at the Helena Museum for our Earth Day Project. The Rotary Landscaping Company is for hire!

If you have any past Rotary magazines you don’t want to save, bring them to our meeting and we can distribute them to doctor’s offices.

Vance will be bringing the program today. His guest speaker is Bob Moore, HRMC Interim Administrator.

Today we are having an Earth Day Project at 2:00. We will be planting azaleas at the Helena Museum.

Program: Janet Juengel will present our own Munnie Jordan to speak about the Delta Roots Festival. Come and learn about all the exciting festivities that will take place!

Thanks to all that helped to deliver Thesauruses & Dictionaries last week. A BIG thank you to Randy Butcher for organizing this worthwhile project and the Isle of Capri for covering the cost of all the books. We will be delivering to Marvell Academy and DeSoto School on Tuesday, March 29th. This will be a great opportunity for our new members to volunteer.

2 little libraries have been ordered for another Rotary Educational/literacy presence in our community. Please save your old books and bring them to our meetings or drop them off at Mary Ann’s home.

We are drawing for the Pellet Smoker/Grill today. Be sure to bring in all your sold and unsold tickets.

Bernadette will be presenting today’s program. Her guest will be Greg Spradlin and he will speak on the Delta Grind Gravel Bike Trail Ride taking place on May 28th in Helena.

Menu – Chicken / Rice Casserole, green bean casserole, salad, and Key Lime Pie for dessert.

Today was the dictionary/thesaurus distribution to all the 3rd and 4th graders in the county. There will be a second round for DeSoto & Marvell Academy once they get off spring break. Be sure to set aside a little time for the next time around.

Our District Conference is going to be held April 29-30 in Little Rock. There are several fun events that will take place during this time. If you would like to represent our club in attendance, let Mary Ann or Eddie know.

We will have several students from DeSoto speak on what they gained from the Rotary Presentation presented at the school by Mary Ann, Eddie, and Brooke. These students will be members of the DeSoto Interact Club. Please give them a warm welcome.

This is the last week to sell tickets for the Traeger Pro Series 34 Pellet Grill. Tickets are $1 each or 5 for $6. Please see Ron Dowda and get your tickets. Please bring your sold tickets/money to each week’s meeting.

Next Wednesday, March 16th is our Dictionary/Thesaurus Distribution to all the 1st & 3rd graders in the county. Details will be announced at today’s meeting. We need volunteers to help with distribution. You will not regret doing this.

We will recognize the February Student of the Month from Marvell Academy.

Very Cherry First Friday is this Friday, March 4th, 5:30 pm at the Delta Dirt Distillery. Be sure to get your secret code today, good for 1 drink at 1/2 price between 5:30 & 6:30. Feel free to bring an appetizer.

Don’t forget to leave your change in the happy buckets on the table for Polio Plus. Our goal is to raise $20 per member by March 14th.

Our district conference will be held in LR on April 29-30. If you are interested in attending, see Mary Ann or Eddie. If you want to go for just one day, that will be fine also.

Rosie Burton with Angels of Grace

Location: Helena Country Club

Meeting Summary:

Rotary International’s 117th Birthday will be celebrated at our meeting today. It is suggested you arrive at 11:45. The program will begin at 12:05. We will have cake, singing, and champagne.

Program – Rosie Burton with Angels of Grace. We will also be presenting her gifts to help with her program.

Don’t forget to drop your change in the buckets on the table for Polio Plus.

Don’t forget to turn in your raffle tickets for the grill. If you haven’t already gotten yours, see Ron at the meeting.

April 29-30 will be our District Conference in Little Rock. There will be a concert with Nacho Bar and Margaritas on Friday night and a Polio Plus 1 mile walk around War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, plus many other fun events. If you would like to attend, let Eddie or Mary Ann know. If you have never been to a district conference, I encourage you to attend. You learn a lot, meet good people and have lots of fun.

February is Peace and Conflict Resolution Month

Location: Helena Country Club

Meeting Summary:

Tap will be introducing our program. His guest will be an ole Helena guy, Phillip Tappan. Phillip is currently with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and will be speaking on their behalf. Should be a good program.

Menu – Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Salad, Dessert.

Congrats to Team Four (Ron Dowda Team Captain) for being the team with the most points at the end of our membership drive, and to Eddie Calhoun for being the individual winner with the most points earned.

Munnie Jordan will be inducted as a Rotarian today.

Be sure to support Polio Plus by leaving your change in the Happy Buckets on each table. Our deadline for this is March 1st. 

Mark your calendar for the District Conference that will be held in Little Rock, AR. on April 29th and 30th. On February 23rd we will be celebrating Rotary’s 117th birthday at our club meeting. We are collecting items to donate to the Angels of Grace Women’s Shelter in our community. Our goal is to collect 117 items to donate. Be sure to pick up a list of suggested items at today’s meeting.


Mr John C. Edwards addressed the Club on the 6th, speaking on the importance of forging trust within relationships in the far-reaching realms of his Economic Development role within the community.
A compelling speaker, a consummate diplomat as well as a wonderful storyteller, his insight is delivered warmly, with much grace and humor.
